Snapdragon 8 Elite 7 Core Edition Debuts with Trimmed Core Count

Qualcomm seems to be expanding its chipset lineup within the same series, introducing variations tailored for different performance tiers. In October last year, the Snapdragon 8 Elite was unveiled with a peak CPU frequency of 4.32GHz, and rumors quickly followed that Samsung was preparing a high-frequency version clocked at 4.47GHz. Around the same time, the Vivo V2453A surfaced on Geekbench, powered by what appeared to be a Snapdragon 8s Elite chipset. Now, in a surprising move, Qualcomm has officially released the Snapdragon 8 Elite 7 Core Edition, listed on its website under the model number SM8750-3-AB. This new variant shares much of the core architecture with the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite, internally coded as SM8750-AB. Both utilize the X80 5G modem and FastConnect 7900 system and feature a maximum CPU frequency of 4.32GHz for prime cores and 3.53GHz for performance cores. The critical difference lies in the CPU configuration. While the original Snapdragon 8 Elite features 2 Prime Cores and 6 Performance Cores, the 7 Core Edition trims this down to 2 Prime Cores and 5 Performance Cores, effectively removing one performance core. This change positions the chipset as a more efficient solution, likely targeting sub-flagship smartphones.

As of now, no smartphone manufacturers have announced plans to adopt the Snapdragon 8 Elite 7 Core Edition. However, analysts expect it to gain traction soon, offering a robust yet slightly toned-down option for high-performance devices in the sub-flagship category.
